Building Your First Email Sequence

2 views Updated Mar 31, 2026

Overview

Email sequences let you send a series of automated emails to subscribers or customers over time. They are essential for onboarding, nurturing leads, and driving repeat sales.

Creating a Sequence

  1. Go to Email → Sequences in your dashboard.
  2. Click "New Sequence".
  3. Give your sequence a descriptive name (e.g., "Welcome Series" or "Post-Purchase Follow-Up").
  4. Select a trigger — the event that starts the sequence:
    • New subscriber added to a list
    • Product purchased
    • Tag added to a contact
    • Custom event via API
  5. Add your first email. Write the subject line, preview text, and email body.
  6. Set the delay before the next email (e.g., wait 1 day, wait 3 days).
  7. Add additional emails as needed. Most welcome sequences have 3-5 emails.
  8. Define exit conditions — when a subscriber should stop receiving the sequence (e.g., they made a purchase or unsubscribed).
  9. Click "Activate" to start the sequence.

Recommended Sequences

  • Welcome series — Introduce yourself and your best content to new subscribers.
  • Abandoned cart — Remind customers who started checkout but did not complete it.
  • Post-purchase — Thank buyers, deliver bonuses, and suggest related products.
  • Re-engagement — Win back subscribers who have not opened emails recently.

Tips

  • Start with a simple 3-email welcome series before building more complex sequences.
  • Monitor open and click rates to identify emails that need improvement.
  • Always include an unsubscribe link — Kartivo adds one automatically.
